Stakeholders Engagement Meeting On Child Protection

UNICEF works with partners to ensure that children are protected.

Department of Social Welfare and Community Development organized a stakeholder’s engagement on 20th December, 2022 at the municipal Assembly Hall. The purpose of the gathering is to galvanize support for community-based structure in the municipality for effective protection of children.

A welcome remark to the participants, Mr. Adusei; the Head of Social Welfare and Community Development said sustainability of child development is only achievable through the role of key community members. Participants from different areas present were officials from Health Sector, Education service, NCCE, Girl Child Coordinator, market women representatives & pupils from Abankro JHS.

During discussion, the Girl Child Coordination made suggestions including:

The use of community-based systems, Municipal &Local authorities provide entry points into the community to offer opportunities for interactions, delivery of response to developmental challenges. It was also suggested that children should take part in decision making affecting them. This helps them take best decisions. They also appeal to parents to build stronger communications relating to children to allow them freely share problems at all times.

The engagement was successful because lots of lessons were learn and new strategies were identified to help promote child protection in the Municipality.
