38TH EDITION OF NATIONAL FARMERS DAY HELD AT AKYAWKROM

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu, Hon. Samuel Oduro Frimpong has advocated farmers within the municipality and beyond to venture into value addition.

Speaking on the theme, “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition”, Hon. Samuel Oduro Frimpong stated that the concept of value addition in agriculture presents a
good opportunity for additional revenue generation, job creation, foreign exchange earnings and effective post-harvest management.

He also noted that value addition involves innovation and product modification through processing, packaging, craft, branding and quality assurance procedures both on
small and large scale using modern machines. “It can be done on both small and large scale. As farmers, small scale value addition can be done in the homes, small farms
and factories whilst on large scale, value addition can be done in factories”.
The Municipal Director for Agriculture (MDA), Mr. David Anamba noted that the department has experienced Agric. Extension Agents who conduct farm and home visits in the seven operational
areas to advice farmers on Good Agricultural Practices and assist farmers to solve their farming related problems.

“The department has been assisting farmers and processors with technical know-how to add value to their produce.
He advised the youth within the municipality to seriously take agriculture as a business by considering where they can properly fit in as actors along the agricultural value chain.

Mr. John Kumah thanked the President, Nana Akufo-Addo for putting much effort in the agriculture sector. “I want to thank the President, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo for implementing a number of flagship programs aimed at developing the agricultural sector.
Farmers in the municipality have benefitted immensely and have improved their livelihood.”

Nana Agyekum II, the Chief of Donaso, who chaired the occasion called on the farmers to take advantage of the outlined initiatives to be introduced by the assembly to add value to their produce.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. John Kumah, together with the MCE conferred the Municipal’s Best Farmer award for his dedication and toil over the years.
Present at the occasion include The Member of Parliament Ejisu Hon. John Kumah, Ejisu Constituency Chairman Hon. Kofi Ampofo, Presiding Member Hon. Helena Mensah and invited dignatries who attended the programme.
