INAUGURATION OF BONWIRE MUSEUM

An ultramodern Bonwire Kente #Museum in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region has been commissioned by the Second Lady, HE Samira Bawumia, on Wednesday, 10th January 2024. The project, which commenced in 2020, according to Hon. Mark Okraku, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts And Culture, is meant to promote tourism by telling the history of the iconic Kente cloth and its importance to the socio-cultural and economic development of the country. On his part, Mr Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority intimated that Kente is more than a cloth. It is an iconic visual representation of the history, philosophy, ethics, oral literature and social values of the people. This purpose-built facility is expected to boost tourism, create job opportunities, and generate revenue, particularly for the youth in the area.

The Museum features a reception area, office space, an exhibition centre, a showroom, a video room, and washroom facilities. As a twin institution, the Centre For National Culture, Kumasi, Ashanti Region, was represented by the Regional Director, Peter K Marfo and Mr Emmanuel Jewel Peprah Mensah, Head of Performing Arts Department. The guests were treated with impeccable Kete and Fontomfrom performances by the Amammereso Agofomma, The Resident Dance Company of the Centre.
